Adapa Karthik, an Andhra Pradesh-born physician, passed the UPSC CSE in 2007. He completed his MBBS in Andhra Pradesh and was given scholarships to Harvard and Cambridge, but he was turned down from these prestigious universities so he could join the Indian Administrative Services and work at the grassroots level of the government.
Adapa Karthik took the UPSC CSE three times, passing both times on his first try. As a result, he was assigned to the Indian Police Services. Karthik, who was adamant about becoming an IAS officer, took the civil services test a third time and scored top.
In 2007, Dr. Karthik Adapa successfully passed the UPSC Civil Services on his third try. Dr. Karthik is a member of the 2008 batch. He has been approved for his new post at the WHO based on rule 6 (2) of the IAS cadre rules, 1954. According to an order from the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT), he will serve a two-year term.
Dr. Karthik was the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2007 top scorer from the Punjab cadre. He is a qualified physician from Andhra Pradesh. He held the position of Special Secretary in the Punjabi government's Department of Health and Family Welfare before this assignment.
