In 1990, he served as the North Dinajpur district's collector in West Bengal. Following that, he was hired by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in Delhi.
On behalf of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas Department, he visited the Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist at the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction & Recovery Meeting in Washington, D.C., on August 18, 2009. He left and returned in 2010, but he hasn't been back to India since.
In 1965, Prashant Kumar was born in the state of Bihar. In 1988, he was the first person to pass the Civil Services Examination. He was a 1988 batch IAS officer from the West Bengal cadre.
