Indian Police Service
- Indian Police Service is the one among the three All India Services.
- IPS officers are trained at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
- The IPS officers occupy senior positions in Police service.
- The IPS officers occupy senior positions in RAW, IB, CBI etc.
Pattern of the UPSC IPS Prelim Exam:-
- The Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) and General Studies are the two papers that make up the IAS Preliminary Examination.
- Multiple-choice questions will be included in each of these exam papers.
- The IPS mains and preliminary exam lasts for two hours.
- Candidates must achieve at least 33% on the Preliminary Examination (CSAT) in order to advance.
- There are two 200-mark papers in the preliminary round.
- There will be Hindi and English versions of the exam papers.
- However, questions on English Language Comprehension would only be offered in English.
Pattern of the UPSC IPS Mains Exam:-
Those who clear the IPS preliminary exam are invited to take the main exam. Candidates are selected for in-person interviews based on their results on the main exam. The final result is the sum of the cumulative marks from the IPS Main exam and the interview. The following papers are included in the written mains examination:

- Economic and Social Development – Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Sustainable Development, Social Sector initiatives,
- General issues on Environmental Ecology, Climate Change and Bio-diversity
Syllabus for Paper-II (General Studies – II/CSAT)
- Comprehension
- Interpersonal aptitudes, including interaction skills
- Analytical ability and logical reasoning
- Decision-making and problem-solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy (orders of magnitude, numbers and their relationships) and data interpretation (graphs, tables, charts, and data sufficiency)
IPS Mains Exam Syllabus
Paper A – Modern Indian Languages – 300 Marks
