Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS)

India's newest civil service is the IRPS. It was founded in 1976, and in 1980 it hired its first class of officers via the UPSC Civil Service Examination.


Functions & Roles (IRPS):-


The only Group "A" service that supports personnel management and human resources in a Central Government department is the IRPS. The following lists the IRPS officers' responsibilities:

  1. Manpower planning, hiring, training, seniority, promotions, transfers, postings, reservations, payments, wages, salaries, and final settlements are all included in personnel management.
  2. Industrial relations includes preserving friendly working relationships, employee involvement in management, welfare initiatives, and grievance resolution.
  3. Legal and judicial matters: litigation, labor law enforcement, and work hours regulations.

Salary and Pay scales (IRPS):-

The formation of the IRPS cadre was intended to oversee the million Indian Railway employees. This cadre provides its officers with good career advancement prospects.

Training and Probation (IRPS)- 

For ninety-three weeks, the IRPS probationers receive training. This includes a fifteen-week Foundation Course at the LBSNAA in Mussoorie. Following this, they receive training at a number of different establishments, including the National Academy for Direct Taxes (NADT), Nagpur, and the National Academy of Indian Railways (NAIR), Vadodara. The officials have also received on-the-job training regarding the Indian Railways' manufacturing facilities, divisions, organizations, and zonal railways.
