Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS)

 For applicants who have passed the UPSC Civil Services Exam, the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) is one of the Group 'A' services possibilities. The Indian Railways' transportation department is mainly run by staff from this cadre. This is the department in charge of generating income for the railroads. It is a highly sought-after Group "A" Civil Service position. The traffic service is divided into two main wings: operations and commercial.


Functions and Roles (IRTS):-

  1. Managing the railway customer interface and coordinating the production and sale of transportation output.
  2. Ensuring efficient and timely freight and passenger transportation within the operations wing.
  3. An officer in the commercial wing is responsible for handling the passenger and freight business's sales, pricing, service, and marketing components.
  4. Under the Central Staffing Scheme, an IRTS official may also be deputated to other ministries and departments.

Training and Probation (IRTS)- 

The four locations of the Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute of Andhra Pradesh include Hyderabad; Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie; National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) in Nagpur; and RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration in Bhopal. Following this, they taught the Railway Foundation Course at Vadodara's National Academy of Indian Railways. At the Indian Railway Institute of Transportation Management (IRITM), which is situated in Lucknow, the officers also receive specialized training. Field trips to various railway activity centers, workshops, and organizations, as well as visits to railway project sites and ports, are organized here by the Centralized Training Institutes of Indian Railways. They have also attended one IIM, many other civil service academies, and a Parliamentary attachment.
