Indian Postal Service (IPoS)

 Among India's Group "A" Civil Services is the Postal Department. The largest postal network in the world, "India Post," which offers services ranging from online banking and e-commerce to traditional postal services, is managed by them. Non-commercial services like the payment of old age pensions and MGNREGA wages are also offered by it. The upper echelons of the Indian post office hierarchy are represented by the IPoS cadre officials. The Ministry of Communications, Government of India, is in charge of cadre control for this particular service. Functions & Responsibilities (IPOS):-

  1. Divisional postal services are monitored and managed, and staff within the division are managed. general management of a division's mail and post offices Technology, financial, and material management.

  4. Taking care of the Public Grievance Redressal System and client interactions
  5. Collaborating with many government organizations, including the district administration and the police.
Pay Scale/Salary  (IPOS):-

The UPSC applicants who are chosen for the IPoS begin their careers as Senior Superintendents of Railway Mail Services (SSRM) or Senior Superintendents of Post Offices (SSPOs). officials from India Post's "Group B" are also promoted to become IPoS officials.

There are 22 postal circles serving different states, and a Base circle serves mail services to the armed personnel. Every circle has a Chief Postmaster General in charge. It is assumed that the officers in the Base circle are deputies of the Army Postal Service. Regions inside circles are led by Postmaster Generals.


 Training period (IPOS)-

  1. Based on suggestions from the Department of Personnel and Training, the Foundation Course is offered at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNA), and National Academy of Direct Taxes.
  2. Professional instruction in postal service management and administration Kidwai National Postal Academy, Rafi Ahmed (RAKNPA).
