CHILDHOOD:-
On January 9, 1956, Jawed Usmani was born in Allahabad, in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He is an IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre of the 1978 Batch and the first topper of the 1978 Civil Services Examination. Farah Usmani, his spouse, is the Chief Officer of the United Nations Population Fund in the United States..
Jawed Usmani and Farah Usmani are parents to two children: Sabah Usmani, a civil engineer from Columbia University in New York in 2013, and Faraz Usmani, a boy who enrolled in Duke University's PhD programme in environmental policy in July 2014. He completed his B.Sc. in engineering.
EDUCATION:-
After graduating from Aligarh Muslim University, Jawed Usmani went on to get an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad between 1974 and 1976, and a degree in social policy and planning from the London School of Economics and Political Science between 1990 and 1991. own an M.Sc.
Javed Usmani is an IAS officer from the 1978 batch who has served in the administrations of three Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and four Prime Ministers of India. In the 1978 Civil Services Examination, he came in first place. He received his education from the London School of Economics & Political Sciences and IIM Ahmedabad. He is India's first Muslim to receive an AIR 1 in the Civil Services Test.
CARRIER :-
Throughout his career, Jawed Usmani has held a number of significant positions in the Indian and state governments.
He served as Mayawati's and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's secretary in the Uttar Pradesh government from December 1993 until October 1995. After that, the Indian Embassy in Nepal invested $50 million a year to promote India's development and cooperation with Nepal while serving as the Minister of Economic Cooperation from June 2001 to February 2004. After thereafter, from July 2004 to September 2007, he served as the Joint Secretary in the PM Office of four Indian prime ministers: HD Deve Gowda, Mr. Indra Kumar Gujral, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Dr. Manmohan Singh.
After thereafter, from November 2007 until October 2010, he worked in Washington, DC, as an advisor to the World Bank's executive director. After that, from November 2010 to February 2012, he served as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, where he conducted research on climate change. Edward Elgar published a book about India called Adaptation to Climate Change.
After that, from March 2012 to May 2014, he served as Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in the Uttar Pradesh government. From July 2014 to February 2015, he served as the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Board. Following that, he opted for Voluntary Retirement (VRS) prior to his February 2015 retirement. In spite of this, on February 17, 2015, Governor Ram Naik of Uttar Pradesh appointed him Chief Information Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh, and he stayed there till February 2015. worked through 2020.
Following that, he left the Indian Administrative Service and has been serving as SAFAR's Honorary President since March 2020.
