Childhood:-


Bangalore is where Iqbal Dhaliwal was born in 1972. His mother owned her own school, her sister worked as a doctor, and his father was a member of the BSF. In 1989, he completed his education at the Mothers International School, specializing in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science. He earned his M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics in 1994 after completing his B.A. (Hons) in Economics from Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi University, in 1992. His areas of expertise were money and banking, agricultural economics, public finance, and developmental economics..

Iqbal Dhaliwal, a TN-1995 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS Topper, has been appointed as the Deputy Director of Policy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge's Economics Department's Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL)..

He took the CSE 1994 on his first try, which was in June of that year. He simply studied the NCERT text books for the various disciplines in order to prepare for the preliminary exam, which he fortunately passed. He was assigned to the Indian Civil Accounts Service Group 'A' after achieving a rank of 229 in the process. His heart was on the IAS, therefore he accepted the service but asked for a year's extension. In 1996, on his second try, he eventually succeeded in getting into the civil services and was placed first..


He completed the written exam with a 1250. He received 226 in the interview, for a total of 1466, which qualified him for the IAS. It feels like a dream come true to be at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), an ambition that he and his family nurtured for 24 years..

During his career, he left a number of positions, including those of Sub Collector and Sub Divisional Magistrate (1996–2002), of Gobi, one of the largest administrative divisions (which are similar to counties) with a population of one million; Deputy Secretary, Public Department, Chennai; Analyst (1996–2002), Dean & Company, Washington, D.C. (2002–2003); Director, Economic Analysis, Huron Consulting Group, Boston (Manager 2003 to 2006, Director 2007 to 2009); Member of J-PAL's Board of Directors and its Executive Committee; and Scientific Director of J-PAL, South Asia, since 2011.

Achievements:-


After placing first in both the All India Civil Services Selection exam and the I.A.S. officer training at India's National Academy of Administration, Iqbal was awarded the Director's Gold Medal. In addition, he was awarded the Soundarya Swamy Gold Medal for finishing first in his undergraduate degree and the Dean's Fellowship at Princeton University. Iqbal has a B.A. (Honours) in Economics from University of Delhi, an M.A. in Economics from Delhi School of Economics and a Masters in Public Affairs (MPA, Development Studies) from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
